Autograf – Future Summer
Chicago trio Autograf has been around for less than a year, but in that time they’ve been jumping up charts and crafting a veteran sound–smooth, intricate, and textured. Making a name for themselves in future house, a small but growing niche corner of the dance world, every remix they’ve released so far is unique enough to be mistaken for an original. When the sun came out they started their Future Summer series, where one new track is pressed every month, on top of a few beach-ready mixtapes.
This month brings a cover of Swedish House Mafia’s One, a perfect late-night-drive track layered with cool vocals and sharp percussion to cut through the hot summer air. The voxy sample in the drop is the hook, but the way they’ve managed to play around with the original melody line is what keeps you around. A huge contrast from the original, but that’s just what I want–not another noisy big-room remix. As for the previous month’s installment, definitely give the Gust of Wind remix a listen. Those filtered synths scream “future music”.
Music aside, the cool thing about Autograf is that they aren’t just musicians–they’re artists. At a small festival last year, the trio populated Chicago’s streets with huge animal-shaped chalkboards, leaving attendees to color up their own exhibitions. Look at some of the other sculptures they’ve put on display at a Warhol-inspired warehouse show below. It’s easy to see that Autograf has a great deal of creativity at the ready, and I’m stoked to see where the future takes them.
