Bonobo – Kong/Ketto (Live)
Last year pioneering electronic artist Simon Green, or ‘Bonobo’, produced what many would call his flagship album: The North Borders. It built on the charmingly experimental style that we had come to love over a period of four albums and 15 years of growth. Emotive, complex, transformative, it also saw the introduction of a cast of new vocalists to accompany Bonobo’s arrangements both in the studio and on the stage. Less than a month after the album’s release The North Borders Tour began, a caravan of sound stopping in North America, Germany, France, Russia and more featuring both Bonobo’s solo DJ sets, as well as elaborate performances with his 12-piece live band.
Now, after nearly two years criss-crossing the globe over 180,000 miles, by the time reaches the finish line next month in London’s famed Alexandra Palace, Bonobo will have visited 30 countries for a staggering total of 175 shows for 2 million people. To commemorate this high point in his career, The North Borders Tour — Live album was just released, featuring some of the best performances from London’s The Roadhouse; Pula Arena, Croatia’s authentic Roman amphitheatre; and Bonobo’s live radio sessions.
While the entire album is worth a listen (and a relisten, and a relisten for that matter), we decided to share our favorite pick, a mix of two classics: Kong, the one that got so many hooked on Bonobo back in the Black Sands days, and Ketto, a throwback to Days To Come.
