The Weeknd – Can’t Feel My Face (Ember Island Cover)

A well done cover released at the right time can do wonders for an artist. Young Swedish trio Ember Island has been hard at work developing their own delicate, almost ethereal take on the indie-electronic aesthetic. Eager to establish a fanbase and reach new ears, they’ve leveraged The Weeknd’s skyrocketing popularity with this cover of Can’t Feel My Face, and it’s working. The result is a melancholic but calm rendition that still provides that same infectious vocal melody, albeit in a form that feels fresh and inviting. If you’re like me, you’re a huge fan of the original but have been afraid to play it to death yourself and get sick of it, especially with everyone and their mother seems to be blasting the song at every waking moment. Well, here’s a refreshing interpretation to sate your appetite.

Little Dragon – Twice (Tora Cover)

It seems fitting that the name “Tora” evidently derives from the Greek τώρα meaning now. This Austrialian quintet’s modern sound brilliantly lays passionate vocals on top of a mesmerizing chillwave backdrop. Strap yourself in around 1:15 and enjoy Twice’s soft chorus held together with the piano and bass; if you’re a fan, be sure to give Tora’s most recent release LATP a spin.

kuma & Kim Vallido – Crawling Back to You (Cover)

Arctic Monkeys’ Do I Wanna Know?: It took the world by storm on AM in 2013, helped make the band the first indie label group to boast five consecutive #1 albums in the UK, gave birth to one of the best music videos we’ve ever seen, and also brought about an onslaught of covers, reinterpretations, and remixes. Bedroom YouTube singer Kim Vallido stripped the tune down to its core with a candlelight interpretation, and experimental producer kuma crafted a downtempo beat to lay underneath her voice and electric piano. Fresh, delicate, tasteful — and, most importantly, a unique reinterpretation — as a cover should be.

Henry Green x Emlyn. – All I Want For Christmas (Mariah Carey Cover)

Happy Holidays everyone! I know most of us have had our fill of the same old festive recordings on the radio, but this year great Henry Green put his delicate touch on All I Want For Christmas, and it’s the first creative spin I’ve heard on a holiday standard in a very long time. A perfect end to the day and beginning to a silent night. Hope you’re all enjoying the friends, family, and other fellow human beings and animals you find yourself surrounded by this season.

Autograf – Future Summer

Chicago trio Autograf has been around for less than a year, but in that time they’ve been jumping up charts and crafting a veteran sound–smooth, intricate, and textured. Making a name for themselves in future house, a small but growing niche corner of the dance world, every remix they’ve released so far is unique enough to be mistaken for an original. When the sun came out they started their Future Summer series, where one new track is pressed every month, on top of a few beach-ready mixtapes.
