weird inside – just ask (Alexander Lewis Remix)

Take note of one of our consistent go-to’s Alexander Lewis. From what we gather, Lewis is now officially in LA and is continuing to carve out a niche that consists of his experimentation with jazz, trip hop, trap and a little funk sprinkled on the side. His discography includes some tremendous collab projects, including 5 South and many more with none other than Brasstracks. Take our word for it – browsing through his SoundCloud is like exploring a brand new city.

Midoca – Gotta Go // Don’t Leave

22 year old Chaz Treharne is a brand new Los Angeles producer working under the alias Midoca. He’s made his debut with Gotta Go and Don’t Leave, a two-track EP of self-described “moodwave” music — a head-turning, overwhelming blend of trip-hop and future bass styles. Gotta Go features unique unravelling synths and a regretful but memorable vocal hook, Don’t Leave a more atmospheric vibe with clever vocal-spliced melodies and flowering saw pads. Definitely two tracks worth tasting, and a budding artist to keep an eye on.

Beshken – Hiro

Santa Monica’s Beshken, on the roster at Next Wave Records, broke a long streak of remixes with a sunny new original, Hiro: chopped vocals and ambient pads like a hyperactive Odesza, it’s a feel-good waiting for spring to break. Hoping for more originals in the future.

EP: Imagined Herbal Flows – Floating

Ben Gorvine has been churning out 2 to 3 original trip-hop instrumentals a month for the past year from his home studio in DC. With that kind of productivity, you’d expect only a handful of gems to surface among the rest. But his project, Imagined Herbal Flows, is something special. Each and every (and we mean every) IMF experiment has left us stunned since we came across Gorvine’s self-released MindFull LP last spring, a collection of all his published beats up to that point. Now taking the next step, IMF has signed with DDM Recordings (the new label arm of French radio Dealer de Musique) to promote his best new material since MindFull. The Floating EP contains 5 past originals and 1 previously unreleased track, Clouds. We fell in love with these songs when they had first quietly and humbly appeared floating down IMF stream. With this professional debut, Gorvine is now stirring up a storm, and we’re excited to see where it takes him.
